Across the Nation

There has been a lot going on around the country since the 2016 election, and especially since the Women's March in January 2017. It's impressive to see all the ways people have responded to what they feel is an assault on our democracy. The following list is wildly incomplete but will hopefully not only open your eyes as to the possibilities, but also the threats that are already upon us or are imminent.

What's up, congress?

This website allows you to track what the U.S. Congress is doing. According to the govtrack.us website, they "help Americans participate in their government." You can find out who your representatives and senators are, and what legislation is being proposed. It also allows you to get notices about upcoming legislation. It is very easy to get lost in all the information provided through this website - who knew there were so many bills being proposed out there? And some of them will likely flabbergast you!

Indivisible is cultivating "a grassroots movement of local groups to defeat the Trump agenda, elect progressive leaders, and realize bold progressive policies." There are thousands of Indivisible groups across the country; find one near you on their website, along with news, events, and guidance on getting Congress to listen to small groups of dedicated and engaged citizens. Emily's List is a group dedicated to "balance the voice of power". While their approach involves getting Democratic pro-choice women elected to office, their vision is about balancing government to make it more representative of the people it serves, especially with the progressive voices of women. Women tend to make decisions based on what's best for the overall well-being of their families. Perhaps it's time they had more voice in running the government.

VRL is a national non-partisan organization that uses technology and training to get more women involved as civic and political leaders. Their team runs the largest national political training program to help unleash the power of women as a force for democracy by getting them ready for public office and civic life.
